High-stakes medical environments often suffer from cognitive overload. In remote orthopedic consultations, practitioners are forced to divide their attention between live patient interaction and complex diagnostic data. This “split-attention effect” increases the risk of clinical error and contributes to professional burnout, as the interface often competes for the surgeon’s limited mental resources.
Solution
I applied cognitive psychology principles to design a landscape workbench that streamlines the practitioner’s mental workflow. By prioritizing a side-by-side layout, the interface reduces “memory load,” allowing for simultaneous analysis of X-rays and patient history without losing visual contact with the patient. The high-contrast theme was selected based on visual perception theories to minimize eye strain during long-duration analysis, while the AI-powered dictation (Medical Blue icon) enables a hands-free experience, preserving the doctor’s focus for critical decision-making.
